Small black clay storage dish with a lid handcrafted in Oaxaca, México featuring hand-carved details. Use for burning incense cones, storing jewelry or keys, or serving small snacks. An accent piece as beautiful as it is functional.
A style of black clay pottery unique to Oaxaca, barro negro is distinguished by its color and finish. It's origins date back centuries and the color is derived not from dye or glaze but from the use of special, locally-sourced clay (free of chemicals, lead and/or glaze). Every piece is burnished prior to firing, which results in the sultry sheen. All clay is locally sourced from the hills of the region and the pieces are shaped by hand, without the use of a pottery wheel.
Our pieces are produced in San Bartolo Coyotepec, a community in the state of Oaxaca.
