Description

Small clay plates handmade in the Pai Pai community of Baja, Mexico. The black markings are a result of the ground-firing process, making each plate entirely unique. We love these for storing and displaying jewelry, soap, or for serving small appetizers.

Story

Designed and crafted by Daria Mariscal in a remote town of northern Baja. Daria harvests and processes local clay, and shapes each plate by hand before sun drying, burnishing, and ground firing the pieces to finish. The smoke and flames create the beautiful marbled appearance. This pottery technique has been practiced by generations of Pai Pai members, an indigenous community in Baja pre-dating the Spanish settlement with currently less than 200 people.

What We Love

The unique color and beautiful marbled effect is unlike any other style of pottery. Functional art for your home!
