Description

A set of two black clay mezcal copitas featuring whimsical faces, individually handmade in Oaxaca, a region of southern México. This design feature (with the face) is common throughout Oaxaca, and has been traced to the Monte Albán time period (the ancient Zapotec metropolis). The little cups (copitas) are intended to be used for sipping mezcal or tequila; the shape helps the spirit open, releasing aromas and enhancing the tasting experience. You'll be transported to Oaxaca, the capital of mezcal, when sipping from these earthy, black clay copitas.

Story

Drinking mezcal from copitas in Mexico embodies a tradition that dates back centuries, fostering a communal atmosphere where people share and savor the complex flavors of this artisanal spirit, promoting a sense of connection and appreciation for Mexico's rich heritage. The copitas, small clay or glass vessels, enhance the sensory experience, allowing drinkers to engage intimately with the distinct characteristics of each mezcal.

What We Love

Produced in San Bartolo Coyotepec, a community in the state of Oaxaca in southern Mexico with a long history of producing barro negro pottery. All clay is locally sourced from the hills of the region and shaped by hand without the use of pottery wheels. The black clay, known as "barro negro," is a unique and revered material prized for its distinctive sheen and ability to be intricately shaped, creating exquisite pottery that reflects the region's rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship.
