A set of 2 round red clay copitas (little cups) handmade in Oaxaca, México featuring adorable, hand-shaped faces. Intended for sipping mezcal. Each copita is finished with a red clay slip which creates a uniquely textural finish.
Handcrafted by a women-led cooperative, known worldwide as Mujeres del Barro Rojo (women of the red clay), founded by Macrina Mateo Martinez. As a teenager, Macrina traveled outside her village (which, as a woman, was frowned upon at the time) to find a wider audience and reach new markets, as well as expand upon the traditions and designs of previous generations. Her knowledge and experience helped the village and the cooperative thrive, and most certainly kept alive the generations-old tradition of making red pottery that continues today.
