Large serving bowls made from a contemporary style of red clay (barro rojo), handcrafted by a cooperative of women in San Marcos, Tlapazola, Oaxaca in southern México. These round serving bowls are shaped by hand, and finished with a red clay slip which creates a uniquely textural finish.

Ideal for entertaining or daily meals, the bowls are sized to serve salads, pasta, grain dishes or fresh fruit and veggies. We love the clean, contemporary lines combined with rustic clay construction. Beautiful and durable for everyday use - they are even oven safe!

The women-led cooperative, known worldwide as Mujeres del Barro Rojo (women of the red clay), was founded by Macrina Mateo Martinez. As a teenager, Macrina traveled outside her village (which, as a woman, was frowned upon at the time) to find a wider audience and reach new markets, and obtain inspiration to expand upon the traditional designs of previous generations. Her knowledge and experience helped the village and the cooperative thrive, and most certainly kept alive the generations-old tradition of making red clay pottery that continues today.

It is our privilege to visit and work directly with the artisans who design and create these beautiful pieces. Supporting the talented artists who dedicate their lives to the craft is a true pleasure.
